Supporting Healthy Aging for Californians with Disabilities
Everyone deserves the opportunity to enjoy a long life in communities where they can thrive! However, many people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) have a harder time accessing their communities and services they need to stay healthy as they age. Programs meant to help older adults aren’t always designed for people with IDD, and IDD services aren’t always fully prepared for the unique needs of the aging individuals they serve. The good news is that the California Department of Aging (CDA) and Department of Developmental Services (DDS), as well as community organizations around the state, are working to change that.
